One of the major challenges in biobank research is to close the research cycle in a way that all the data generated by one research study, can be consistently associated to the original sample and hence be reused in another studies:

MIABIS 1.0 and its representation in OWL2 to enable ontology-assisted querying was created by BBMRI.se in 2012.

Since November 2013 a working group with representatives from five BBMRI-ERIC countries has been established to work on the governance and shaping of MIABIS 2.0.

The working group consists of country experts from the following BBMRI-ERIC members:

BBMRI.se (Roxana Merino-Martinez, Loreana Norlin)
BBMRI.fi (Kaisa Silander, Anita Nieminen)
BBMRI-NL (Morris Swertz, David van Enckevort, Linda Mook)
BBMRI.LV (Linda Zaharenko)
The German Biobank Node (GBN) (Gabriele Anton, Raffael Bild, Michael Hummel, Murat Sariyar, Simone Schuffenhauer, Roman Siddiqui)
BBMRI.be (Araceli DiezFraile, Joakim Geeraert)
